Water and perfumes: an indissoluble bond
The presence of water on Earth is essential for the development and sustenance of life. At the base of all forms of life, it is essential to carry out the simpler actions of daily life, as well as the more complex ones, from agriculture to industry. It is a fundamental resource for keeping the entire ecosystem healthy, not only humans and animals but also plants and climate, which help to keep the temperature of the oceans and other large aquifers constant.
But water is also the basis of the discovery of today's perfumery. In fact, towards the end of the 1600s, Gian Paolo Feminis, a street vendor by profession, produced a drink, Aqua Mirabilis, which, according to him, heals every disease. From his country of origin in the province of Novara he moved to Cologne, Germany. Here the Aqua Mirabilis becomes Cologne Water. Later Giovanni Antonio and Giovanni Maria Farina (1685-1766), his descendants, transformed Cologne into the city of perfume, making it famous worldwide. Production multiplies rapidly and water loved and used by great personalities - from Goethe to Napoleon, from Voltaire to Queen Victoria, is exported all over the world.
Even today, its formula, declined in different ways, unites a sense of lightness and vitality, which has become indispensable. Linked to a concept of natural well-being that can be used as friction on the whole body due to the low alcohol content and the reduced concentration of perfume (around 5%), it has become, in a male view, an ideal aftershave.
In the following centuries, Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum developed from the Cologne Water. The differences? In the former, a strong concentration of perfume, around 8-12%, and a greater presence of alcohol accentuate evaporation and emphasize the initial impact. In the latter, whose alcohol concentration ranges from about 12 to 18%, the heart represents the most important part of the formula. But water still remains an essential element.
Following the birth of perfumes, the need for more accurate knowledge of fragrances was created in a more recent era, in order to better appreciate their characteristics. Hence the birth of guided olfactory paths, for example, which, thanks to the help of professional trainers, help the client explore the top, heart, and base notes of fragrances in a crescendo.
A unique reality in Italy, Campomarzio70, a historic Roman distributor, defines itself and its partners as “diffusers of olfactory culture”. A passion that has been handed down from father to son for four generations, starting from the 40s of the last century, a golden moment for artistic perfumery. The brands selected by the Di Liello family, many exclusively, both in Rome and in Italy, are truly authentic fragrances. Behind their creation, there are professionals who create perfumes driven by the desire to communicate their own vision of the world, aware that in each of the people who wear them they will evoke different images, experiences, and experiences.
There are many brands represented by Campomarzio70, many of them French, which continue to produce perfumed waters, such as the Parisian Maison Francis Kurkdjian which just this spring unveiled the new Cologne forte collection.
The famous nose in fact believes that the main idea of these fragrances is to convey freshness through the sensations induced by light.
Since the creation of the Maison in 2009 with Marc Chaya, co-founder, and CEO, Francis Kurkdjian has revived the spirit of Cologne and reinterpreted it in his own way with Aqua Universalis, a fresh eau. Since then the tradition has continued, enriching itself with two other olfactory silhouettes, Aqua Vitæ and Aqua Celestia, now reworked in the cologne version.
Or Hermetica, a collection of green fragrances inspired by the ancient Florentine alchemical practice. Applying it to modern perfumery, Hermetica is based on the belief that the search for the perfect fragrance arises from the connection between the molecules within a fragrance and the skin of those who use it. In their search for the elixir of the supreme perfume, the founders John and Clara Molloy decided to create a revolutionary collection: instead of choosing between natural and synthetic ingredients, they mixed them by making green chemistry from ingredients interact with renewable molecules. Dry Waters is in fact the collection of abstract metallic flowers, which draws inspiration from floral waters, a prelude to contemporary perfumery.
Then there is Memo Paris which dedicated the novelty Sicilian Leather to Sicily, a tribute to an island of character, with a spicy and energetic taste, such as the eruptive and overwhelming accord of leather introduced by notes of cedar, bergamot, and bitter orange.
In view of the summer of this year, Campomarzio70 has landed in Palermo. Thanks to the collaboration with Dabbene, a historical reality, today the new Essential Store has opened its doors in via Principe di Belmonte 100. A perfumed gallery where research, professionalism, and the most precious exclusives bring each customer into a dimension where they can feel truly unique through the discovery of the olfactory culture.
Today Campomarzio70 is present with three stores in Rome, and then in Milan, Florence, Cortina, Forte dei Marmi, with corners in Cagliari, Naples, again in Rome, in Salò, Como, Sanremo, and now Palermo and those dedicated to fragrances environment in the Rinascente Duomo in Milan and Tritone in Rome.
